The family plays a critical role in our society and in the training of the generation to come.Is this true of your society?

The family is the basic unit of society however this is becoming less true with the younger generations as the notion of family has changed drastically.

In earlier generations, people had no qualms staying with their parents and about a family of three generations could stay under one roof.Nowadays newly weds have trouble even staying close to their parents' houses and are reluctant to even have children. Which is why its is not wrong to say that the idea of a family has changed drastically.

Families play a unique role in the society by ensuring that the younger generation socialised into the norms and values of the society that they live in.This is because in society there are many unspoken rules and codes of cconduct that adults are expected to follow therefore people under the age of 18 are still considered children as they may not fully understand or know all these rules. While there are people in specialised occupations to teach children these social norms and moral values, most of the time,a child's parents serve to be the best teachers around.

The family can also help to regulate sexual activity.(although personally Singapore needs a higher rate of reproduction so with the low birth rates it may not be so ideal to model after parents in this aspect)However this is important as it will help prevent troublesome situations from happening like unplanned pregnancies so the family must try to teach the children the proper moral values to prevent such problems from happening as it could be easily avoided.

The family will also provide economic suppport for their children as they are still unable to support themselves. They will also try to impart life skills onto their children to help them to survive out in society and also this way the children can obtain common sense

Tis true to only a certain extent as in my sopciety parents would now focus more on their career and may not be so focused on teaching the younger generation so these children will slowly learn these values from other places such as the staff at a daycare centre the child may be attending.

This is not such a good thing as bad influences from the media may corrupt a child's moral values as he would still not know right from wrong.Furthermore, family ties will help to instill positive values better as the child looks up to the parents and will probably learn more from what his parents say.

As for providing economic support this is an obvious need for a child as the child posses no skills to support him or herself so this is also where the family plays a crucial role in society.

In conclusion, although families are not as tight-knit as they were before, and although the family may not always be focusing all of their attention on the young, they are still crucial to society as they are needed to support, teach and socialise the younger generation as without them the younger generation to come would be uneducated and would display little or no moral values and that would not be a very good reflection on our society
